Christopher Picek, Chef de Cuisine

Originally from Inuvik, N.W.T, Christopher moved to Calgary in 1993. He graduated with his Red Seal from SAIT Culinary Institute in 1998. He spent the next 3 years in the Canadian Rockies working for the esteemed Rimrock and Wedgewood Hotels. He then accepted the position as Sous Chef here at Il Sogno in 2000 where he spent 2 years before embarking on a culinary journey around the world. Christopher had the opportunity to participate in various stagaire's in Europe including Michelin star Restaurant Martin Wishart and Atrium Restaurant before taking a full time position at Etain Restaurant in Scotland. Returning home to Calgary, Chris has brought his passion for great food and diverse culinary experiences back to "Inspired Italian" restaurant Il Sogno.

Philosophy:

"Less is usually more, however in a high end restaurant people expect a certain degree of technical accomplishment in the food and service. The key is to find balance; doing something simple, yet will engage the senses."

A local Calgarian Robert completed his Red Seal in 1998 in the same graduating class as Chef de Cuisine Chris Picek from SAIT Culinary Institute. From there he embarked on 5 years of culinary travel around the world. His first stop was in Roturra, New Zealand at the Royal Lakeside Novotel Restaurant. From there he made his way to London England where he accepted full time positions at Mosimann's Restaurant and then Greens Restaurant where he spent the next three years. In 2005, he moved to Vannes, France where he accepted the Head Chef position at Terroir Restaurant. Returning home, Robert brings to Calgary experience, diversity and enthusiasm to "Inspired Italian" restaurant Il Sogno.

Philosophy:

"The time and love put into a dish will always be felt by those who enjoy it. To be passionate about something as simple as food makes being passionate about life so much easier."

Il Sogno looks forward to the passion and experience that this dynamic team brings to "our table."
