Calgary, AB – Il Sogno, one of Calgary’s most acclaimed and award winning Italian restaurants, will serve its “last supper” on April 30th, 2015.
For the past 15 years, owner, Patricia Koyich, has overseen all aspects of the restaurant's operations, maintaining its elegant atmosphere, fine dining service and exquiste cuisine. Upon opening, it immediately became one of the high-end restaurants to keep an eye on in the Calgary dining scene. Winning multiple awards year after year, Il Sogno maintained a Four Diamond rating 4 years in a row and most recently placed as Calgary's 4th best restaurant by Avenue Magazine.
Il Sogno resides in the historical DeWaal building, in the community of Bridgeland, which was once known as Calgary’s “Little Italy”. Koyich and the owners of the DeWaal heritage space will not be renewing the business’ lease. Unfortunately, they could not come to an agreement that benefited both parties. Interest has been shown, which would bring new tenants to this space, but no deals have officially been signed and a new tenant has not been announced by the building owners.
Il Sogno was the first restaurant to take space in the heritage building. After 4 months of construction, Il Sogno opened its doors to the public on August 25, 2000. The location inspired Koyich, who started her restaurant career as a server at Boston Pizza, to think about the nature of what makes fine dining and the importance of “the table”. Ultimately, she created a vision and drive for the passion of Il Sogno’s food, the wine, and the people.
Koyich is currently a full time instructor for the SAIT Hospitality and Tourism program. "There comes a time for change in everything we do. Il Sogno has enriched my life in so many ways. I am so proud of the accomplishments of Il Sogno and the many people that have worked tirelessly over the years to make it what it is today. I am very grateful to everyone who has supported me and I hope to see you one last time,” she said.
Il Sogno means “the dream” in Italian. Life is about finding a dream and fulfilling it. That is exactly what Koyich did.
